Maggie Grace (born Margaret Grace Denig on 21 September 1983) is an American actress, best known for her roles as Shannon Rutherford on the ABC TV series Lost and Kim Mills in the Taken trilogy. She was born in Worthington in Ohio. She dropped out of school after her parents divorced to go in Los Angeles to live with her mother. However, in 2001, despite finances it was possible to secure her first big role in the online video show Rachel's Room as the lead character. The actress was able to secure an Young Artist Award nomination in 2002, for her role as fifteen-year-old victim Martha Moxley in the television film Murder set in Greenwich. In 2004, Grace was chosen to play Shannon Rutherford in the television show Lost in which she acted as a principal actor for the first two seasons. She was also awarded a Screen Actors Guild Award shared with the cast of the ensemble. Grace was forced to quit the series to focus on her acting career. She had appeared alongside Tom Welling opposite in The Fog earlier in the year 2005. She appeared in Suburban Girl The Jane Austen Book Club (both 2007) and opposite Liam Neeson as Kim Mills in Taken in the year 2008. The actress reprised her character for Taken 2 (2011) and Taken 3 (2013).She also played Alice in Malice in Wonderland, a modern version to Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Grace was Shannon on the final episode and two other episodes. In 2013, she appeared in Season 6 of Californication. She is Faith, a groupie who is a muse for the stars and catches the eye to Hank Moody (David Duchovny). She is a member of the Gyllenhaal family, she is the daughter and elder sister to actor Jake Gyllenhaal. As a teenager, she began to work on small roles with her father. She also appeared in Donnie Darko alongside her brother. In 2002, she starred as a character on Adaptation Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Also, she appeared on Mona Lisa Smile (2003). Gyllenhaal's lead roles in Secretary, a romantic comedy-drama erotico, and Sherrybaby (a film) earned her nominations for Golden Globe Awards. Her fame grew for her role as Rachel Dawes, a superhero in The Dark Knight (2008), thanks to several successful commercials she appeared in the year the year 2006. The film was nominated for an Academy Award as Best Supporting Actress due to her part on the film Crazy Heart, (2009). In the following years she appeared in comedy and dramatic films: Nanny McPhee & the Big Bang (2010) Hysteria 2011 and Won't Back Down 2012. In addition, she appeared as a Secret Service Agent in White House Down the action-packed thriller released in 2013, a musician in Frank (2014), and The lead for the lead role in The Kindergarten Teacher, a drama that was released in the year of the year 2018. Gyllenhaal's first film as a writer and director took place in 2021, with The Lost Daughter, a psycho-drama for which she received an award at the Venice International Film Festival Best Screenplay Award. In addition, she was awarded the Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
